BC "Comedy Night at St. Paul's" a Roaring Success

Bishop Canevin High School celebrated the holiday season with students, faculty, alumni and friends in O'Connor Hall at St. Paul Seminary on Thursday night, December 22 with a special event -
"Comedy Night at St. Paul's."The event featured two Bishop Canevin alumni - national stand-up comedian Jesse Joyce '96, home for the holidays from New York City, and Tim Dimond '04, Carnegie Mellon University's Mr. Fraternity.
"I was really proud to be able to come back and help Bishop Canevin," said Jesse Joyce. "It was surreal to crack jokes around my old teachers without getting into trouble."
The all-profit event raised over $1,000 for Bishop Canevin High School, thanks to both comedians volunteering their time and talents free-of-charge.
Tim Dimond opened the show and performed self-written comedy songs with the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar. Dimond's performance was highlighted by a song written, exclusively for the show, about long-time Bishop Canevin teacher Mr. Fazio and his "Clorox Bleach Medley," an upbeat, spoken-word style compilation of several well-known rap songs such as Ludacris' "What's Your Fantasy," 50 Cent's "In Da Club," and Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back."
Jesse Joyce followed with an hour-long stand-up routine. In his act he discussed topics that ranged from his day's at Bishop Canevin and Duquesne University to living in New York City. After the show Joyce signed autographs and sold copies of his new debut comedy album, "Joyce to the World." The album, which was recorded live at
Comedy off Broadway in Lexington, KY, is available at
JesseJoyce.com.
Seen at the event: Principal Sinagra, Sr. Judy, Teachers - Mr. Fazio, Mr. Jacoby, Mr. Lesifko, Mr. Schlicht, Mr. O'Connell, Rita Yunker and Ms. Lavrinc, and singer/songwriter Justin Morris of the band Mercury.
Jesse Joyce has already confirmed that he would like to make this a regular event.

FBLA Dance Marathon
The Pennsylvania chapter of Future Business Leaders of America has adpoted as its state project for 2005-2006 the American Heart Association. Last year FBLA raised over $100,000 for the American Lung Association and we hope to do even better this year.

The total monies raised by all 310 schools with FBLA chapters will be presented to a representative of the American Heart Association at the annual state convention to be held at Hershey, PA in April.
The students of Bishop Canevin are asking you to help them reach their pledge of $1,000. Any support that you may be able to provide for this worthy endeavor will be greatly appreciated by the students of Bishop Canevin, Pennsylvania FBLA, and the American Heart Association.

Mandatory Sports Medicine Nutrition Lecture for Girl's Basketball Team - December 6th

Tomorrow, December 6th, following practice (7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.) in the school cafeteria, all players are required, and their parents are invited, to attend a lecture on
"Sports Medicine Nutrition." This informative presentation will be provided by
Leslie Bonci, M.P.H., R.D. Leslie is the Director of Sports Medicine Nutrition for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Center for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
The level of competition at Bishop Canevin has increased dramatically and as we have improved as a team, our expectations as coaches have increased as well. We have asked all players to increase their commitment to the program and demands on their bodies. Weight lifting, running and conditioning have challenged our players toward achieving their ultimate goal of winning championships, but a key component to achieving our team goals is healthy nutition.
To help us achieve our balanced and healthy nutitional goals, Leslie will present information that will be immediately useful for all players and their parents. She will discuss what and when players should eat and why; plus, she will offer post practice/workout meal recommendations; in-season diet plans, snacks, etc.
There will be a question and answer session for the players and their parents following the lecture. We only ask that the questions are pertaining to the players. Parent's diet questions can be held at another time.
If you have any questions, please call
Coach Rogers 412.787.8616.
Thank you - Coaches Tim Joyce, T. O'Shea and Wim Rogers
