We received an overwhelming response to our Comedy Night II event last night in O'Connor Hall at St. Paul Seminary.
Over 300 students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends attended Comedy Night II. A large portion of the crowd was made up of younger alumni who have graduated in the past ten years. The event raised nearly $4,000 for the school. Since the comedians donated their time and talent free-of-charge there were no expenses and the event was an all-profit fundraiser.
The show featured national headliner Jesse Joyce '96 (www.jessejoyce.com) delivered over an hour of stand-up comedy, which received roaring laughs throughout the set. Joyce also headlined Comedy Night I. He will headline The Funnybone in Station Square Dec. 27-31.
"It was pretty awesome that the crowd was fives times larger than last year's show," Joyce excitedly said after the show. "It was very surreal signing autographs for my old algebra teacher," he added.
Darrin Hall '97 and Justin Janosko '98 of The Lifetime Guarantee (www.thelifetimeguarantee.com) comedy band made their Bishop Canevin Comedy Night debut. The duo brought their unique brand of humor to the show weaving sketch comedy, music and improv into a performance that raised the Comedy Night event to a new level.
Comedic acoustic guitarist Tim Dimond '04 (www.audiri.com/timdimond) returned from Comedy Night I and impressed the audience with a polished act after making it to the finals of a comedy competition this past summer at The Funnybone.
At the conclusion of the show, it was announced that the tradition will continue with Comedy Night III in 2007.
Thanks to all who attended and volunteered at Bishop Canevin Comedy Night II to help make the event such a special evening. A special thanks, of course, to our comedians!
