Guidelines for WPIAL Championship Game
Congratulations to our Lady Crusaders for an
inspiring playoff run. They have qualified for the WPIAL Championship game at
Palumbo Center on Fri 3/2/11 at 3 PM. Due to that early start, the following
schedule, events and guidelines are in effect.
1. Friday
is a BC dress down day.
2. The
girls team will leave at 1:15 from the front of the school. There will be a
student body sendoff through the main lobby, into the courtyard as the girls board the bus to the Palumbo Center.
3. The
cheerleaders will leave after 8
th period.
Their bus will also be a
fan bus for those interested. If we need an extra bus, we will provide it.
4. Students
who purchase tickets from the athletic office will be allowed to leave at 1:45
(after 8
th period). Tickets are $5 for students in advance, $10 at
the gate. All adult tickets are $10. Tickets will be on sale during lunch
periods Thursday & before school Friday.
5. Students
must also present a signed parental permission slip which we will provide that
will indicate whether they are using the fan bus or their own transportation.
6. STUDENTS
MUST HAVE PURCHASED BOTH A GAME TICKET AND TURN IN A PARENTAL PERMISSION SLIP
IN ORDER TO LEAVE @ 1:45.
7. SHIRTS
MUST BE WORN. THERE ARE TO BE NO COSTUMES OR MASKS. NO ARTIFICIAL NOISEMAKERS
ARE ALLOWED.
8. THERE
IS TO BE NO TAUNTING OR HARASSMENT OF PLAYERS, COACHES, OFFICIALS, OR
SPECTATORS. REPRESENT BC WELL WITH GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP.
9. GOOD

Lady Crusaders Advance to WPIAL Finals
Congratulations to the Lady Crusaders Varsity Basketball Team who defeated Steel Valley 63-52 and advanced to the WPIAL "AA" Championship Game against rival Seton-LaSalle this Friday, March 2 at 3:00 pm at the Palumbo Center, Duquesne University.
Good Luck, Ladies! Come out and cheer them on to a championship!

Lady Crusaders Advance to WPIAL Semi-Finals
Carly Forse had 14 of her game-high 19 points in the first half, and Erin Waskowiak had 14 of her 18 points in the first quarter as the Lady Crusaders (20-4) routed the Avonworth Antelopes (19-5) at Ambridge last Friday night.
The Crusaders next opponent is Steel Valley in the WPIAL Semi-finals this Tuesday Feb 28th. The game will be played at 6 PM at West Allegheny High School. Tickets are on sale in Mr. Bowman's office. Student tickets are $4 in school but $6 at the gate.

CONGRATULATIONS, SHELLY MORGAN, '12!

Congratulations to Shelly Morgan, '12 who was awarded "The Seton Scholar Full Tuition Scholarship" from Seton Hill Univeristy.! It is a full four-year scholarship valued at over $113,000.
Pictured above is Shelly, along with her parents, Paul & Mary Ann Morgan and her grandmother. Seton Hill representatives are Ashley Josay, Interim Director of Admissions and Jonathan Gibson, Admissions Counselor who surprised Shelly with a presentation of the award last week.
Shelly and her family are members of Holy Trinity Parish. She will enroll in the Seton Hill University School of Education. Congratulations!

LEPRECHAUN POSTCARD
My Favorite Teacher Contest

The deadline is approaching for the Barnes and Noble "My Favorite Teacher" contest. Entries are due by next Thursday, March 1st. They can be turned in at the library or dropped off at the Settler's Ridge Barnes and Noble. The entry can be an essay, poem, or thank-you letter of 500 words or less sharing how a teacher has influenced your life. Submissions must be typed on 8.5 x 11" white paper. Please see Mrs. Rakaczky in the Library with any questions.

Lady Crusaders Advance to Quarterfinals
Erin Waskowiak's 25 points and 8 steals led the Lady Crusaders (19-4) to a resounding win against the Mohawk Warriors (18-6) at Ambridge, while Carly Forse added 17 points and 10 rebounds. The playoff journey continues with the WPIAL Class "AA" quarterfinals this Friday night vs Avonworth. Game time is
6:15 at Ambridge. Tickets are available from the Athletic Office through Friday afternoon. Student tickets are $4 if bought in school and $6 at the door.

Drake Greer, '10 Named to Big East All-Academic Team
Drake Greer,'10 was named to the Big East All-Academic Team. He finished his second season after being a freshman walk-on at the University of Pittsburgh's training camp as placekicker and punter. Drake was redshirted as a freshman.

BC Alumni - Bo Tokarski
Bo Tokarski, BCHS graduate of 2011,(who starred as Frank Butler in last years BCHS musical) is performing in St. Vincent College Musical , Steven Sondheim’s ‘Company’ which continues to run next weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 24-26).
Bo is a freshman at St. Vincent College and serves on student government, is a member of the soccer team, and regularly acts with the St. Vincent Players. He has also recently been invited to join the Alpha Lambda Delta organization, an honors society for top performing first year students.

3rd Annual Gilda’s Club Teen Writing & Art Contest
A cancer diagnosis can unleash a storm of emotions, questions and unexpected discoveries, not just for the person with cancer, but for the whole family, and even their friends.
We are looking for honest, detailed personal writings & artwork by young writers & artists (9th-12th grade) who demonstrate an authentic ability to move their audience by sharing their experience with cancer.
Contest Details
• Written entries/artwork and completed contest entry form must be submitted by mail or online, postmarked by Friday, March 9, 2012.
• Written entries must be typed, double spaced, and between 500-2000 words.
• Art entries may include drawings, paintings, photography, etc., and must be accompanied by a narrative of 100 words or less describing how the artwork relates to cancer.
• Finalist entries will be selected by a panel of independent judges.
• Cash prizes up to $500 awarded in both Writing & Art categories.

Seven New Members to Join Bishop Canevin “Ring of Honor”
A judge in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, two executives of major area corporations, a lifelong educator and a renowned area physician have been named to the 2012 alumni class of the Bishop Canevin High School Ring of Honor. The induction ceremony will take place beginning at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, February 26 at Chariters Country Club.
The five alumni will be joined by the school’s former athletic director and head basketball, football and golf coach, and a local business that has supported the school for a number of years.
The Distinguished alumni include:
- Kelly Bigley, '83, a judge in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas;
- Richard J. Harshman, '74, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny Technologies, Inc.;
- Catherine Militzer, '73, principal of St. Margaret of Scotland Grade School, Green Tree;
- David A. Blandino, M.D., M.S., '70, UPMC Shadyside Department of Family & Community Medicine;
- Joseph Aloe, '79, president of Quality Aggregates, Inc.
Joining these five alumni as new members of the Ring of Honor will be Distinguished Educator Walter Milinski, the school’s first male lay teacher and first athletic director and basketball, football and golf coach, and Distinguished Supporter Matt Polk Photography.

BC Auction Fund-Raiser
There is still time to support the annual auction by purchasing the newly designed navy and white Crusader t-shirt for $10.00.
If you purchase a t-shirt by Thursday, February 23 you may wear the shirt for a BC dress down day on Friday, February 24 and Tuesday, February 28. A great way to support the auction – buy a $10.00 t-shirt, wear the shirt for two BC dress down days and own a great new style spirit shirt for future wear!
Students who do not wish to buy the shirt, but would still like to contribute to the auction, may do so by contributing $3.00 (in an envelope with your name given to your homeroom teacher) to have a BC dress down day (Handbook page 38) on February 24. Follow the same donation procedure for a second BC dress down day on Tuesday, February 28.
